Ski and snowboard volunteers sought for Forest Service tours

The U.S. Forest Service is seeking ski and snowboard volunteers to lead guided tours at Heavenly Mountain Resort one day a week for its “Ski with a Ranger” program.

Volunteers will be provided with a thorough orientation and a day pass for the day of each tour. The expected time commitment will be four to six hours a week, January through April, depending upon a volunteer's availability.

All volunteers are required to attend the program orientation Jan. 11.

For information, contact Tara McCarthy at (530) 307-9610.

The Volcom Stone Peanut Butter and Rail Jam Series at Sierra-at-Tahoe

The Volcom Peanut Butter and Rail Jam series for amateur snowboarders returns for another 17-stop North American tour, and it will drop in on Sierra-at-Tahoe on Jan. 2. The PB&RJ series is cool in two ways: Theres no cost (other than lift ticket, of course) to enter the competition, which will be separated into four divisions -- 15 and under and 16 and over, girls and open -- and there will be a bunch of swag (i.e., free prizes and food.) so that everyone who enters walks away with something.
