Events in Whistler, Vail and Aspen in March & April 2015

We’re half way through the ski season now, and thoughts are already turning towards some of the great events coming up in Whistler, Vail and Aspen in March and April 2015.

Whistler World Ski & Snowboard Festival – April 10-19

The biggest is probably the World Ski and Snowboard Festival in Whistler.

There’s a phrase the locals like to roll out that tells you all you need to know about this event: ‘There’s always time to sleep in May.’

There really is so much going on.  During the day, there’s action on the slopes, plus there’s après-ski that goes on long into the night.

The first days features the World Ski Invitational, which doubles up as the AFP World Tour Finals.  There are slopestyle, halfpipe and big air competitions to watch, all of which attract top talent.

The second weekend features ‘The Shred Show’ at the Blackcomb Nintendo Terrain Park for more big air and slopestyle action, plus a frenetic snowboard cross event.

As well as action on the snow, the ‘State of the Art’ competition at the Whistler Conference Centre includes a graffiti battle, youth gallery and the chance for anyone in the creative world to express themselves.

Apres events include a massive silent disco, and a 10-day programme of free music concerts on and off the mountain.

Whistler Blackcomb has a great record for April snow, so for options on lodging and accommodation in Whistler, please contact the Coda team.

Aspen Bud Light Spring Jam – March 12-29

Starting a month before this comes the Aspen Spring Jam.

This has grown since it was founded 15 years ago to cover three weekends through March, with all the events free to the public.

The opening weekend sees a Big Rail event on Friday 13 March at Snowmass on Upper Fanny Hill.  Plus there’s a ‘Little Air’ comp for the kids.

Sunday 15th sees the Helly Hansen ‘Battle in the Bowls’ when teams of two try to ride as many bowls of the Aspen Highlands as possible.  Check the video below to find out more:

The weekend of Friday 20
th and Saturday 21st features a Big Air on Aspen Mountain and a Banked slalom on Snowmass respectively and on Sunday the 22nd, the ‘Fallen Friends Memorial’ event takes place.

With bumps, rails, jumps and other features this is a jam session that will feature plenty of fun and fancy dress.  This year there will also be a group bowl hike, with all monies raised going towards AVSC (Aspen Valley Ski Club) scholarships.

If you’d like to be there for this special time of year yourself, and want options for accommodation in Aspen, then please let us know.

Spring Back to Vail – April 17-19

The Aspen event the only one in Colorado this spring – shorter, and later, but by no means less-celebrated is ‘Spring Back to Vail’ in mid-April.

There’s more free music gigs on the mountain, but the highlight will surely be the self-styled ‘World Pond Skimming Championships’

Possibly the most entertaining event ever to feature on snow – and icy cold water – this unique event sees a series of bizarre costumes and sanity-challenged skiers and boarders take on the pond.

Amusement and action is guaranteed.  For options on accommodation and lodging in Vail for ‘Spring Back to Vail’ check out the options on our website.

Whichever resort you head to for your spring on the mountain – have a great time!
