Situated in the southeastern corner of British Columbia, known locally as the Kootenay Rockies region, the Powder Highway is a region that boasts the highest concentration of alpine resorts, backcountry, cat, heli and cross-country skiing/riding in the world. With 18m (60 ft) of average annual snowfall, the Kootenay Rockies are one of the world's meccas for powder skiing and snowboarding. The total area is more than 3 million acres and features the big mountains of the Canadian Rockies and Columbias - the Purcells, the Selkirks and the Monashees.
