The Five Best Luxury Hotels In Vail

Arrabelle at Vail Square

If you’re thinking about a skiing holiday in Vail then you’ve made a great choice. This resort is one of the finest in North America…and the world. The skiing offers the largest ski area in the States, including 5289 acres of freeride terrain for you to enjoy.

Famously, the resort measures seven miles from one side of the ski area to the other. This means you get much more of the mountain to yourself: according to the resort, in peak season there are only four skiers per acre, and on non-peak days, just two!

There are more high speed lifts than any other resort in the States, so queues are rare. Golden Peak features a great snow park and the Blue Sky Basin area gives you access to arguably the wildest backcountry skiing in North America.

The town itself never fails to charm. The resort was built in 1962 with a nod to its European counterparts. It has a more Alpine feel than other American resorts, with a large pedestrian zone and a central area packed full of restaurants, bars and entertainment.

So where should you stay in Vail?

At Coda Travel we offer 16 different choices for lodging in Vail, ranging in price and quality. Here are our recommendations for the upper end of that market:

The Five Best Luxury Hotels in Vail:

1. Arrabelle at Vail Square

This is a truly impressive property – a luxury hotel with amazing facilities, located right in the centre of Vail. There are 62 rooms and suites, all well-sized and superbly furnished. Alternatively there is also a selection of private apartments, all equipped to a high standard and featuring up to five separate bedrooms.

As well as its superb location, it’s the facilities that make this hotel something special. Why not try the rooftop swimming pool or hot tubs? Or perhaps you’d like to take advantage of the spa and fitness centre with steam rooms, saunas and whirlpools? Luxury in the centre of Vail. Highly recommended.

2. Four Seasons Vail

Larger than the Arrabelle, the Four Seasons is no less luxurious. The hotel has over 100 rooms and suites, the majority of which have views of either the mountain or pool and balconies. You can take a dip in the outdoor heated swimming pool, as well as enjoying their spa, sauna and fitness room. Another useful bonus is the ski concierge service at the Vista Bahn chair lift, taking a weight off your shoulders at the start and the end of the day.

3. Sonnenalp Hotel

Still a family hotel after all these years, the Sonnenalp definitely brings a European feel to Vail. Owner Johannes Faessler is the fourth generation of his family to ensure that your welcome to Vail is personal and genuine. The Faesslers’ watchword of ‘Gemutlichkeit’ translates to mean your comfort and relaxation during your stay.

Each of their 112 suites is equipped with their own private hot tub to soak in at the end of the day and gas-log fire. One of the nicest touches is the underfloor heating in the large bathrooms – bliss! Their spa includes indoor and outdoor swimming pools, steam rooms, saunas and even a ‘Tsunami’ shower. And in case the altitude is getting to you, there’s an oxygen bar just for you. Now that is a touch of luxury you do not find everywhere.

4. Ritz Carlton Residences

These two, three and four bedroom apartments are all fitted out in luxurious Bavarian style, and equipped with gourmet kitchens that can be stocked up prior to your arrival and during your stay in Vail. The Club concierge will help you organise and plan your week, helping you with every detail of your time in Vail.

Centrally located and with its own private swimming pool, this is great place to try out the legendary service that Ritz Carlton is known for across the world.

5. The Lodge at Vail

Location, location, location. The Lodge at Vail is located in the heart of Vail village, and right at the foot of Vail Mountain. With the lifts, restaurants and shops right on your doorstep there is no better place to stay in Vail.

For 2014/15, the excellent facilities at The Lodge at Vail will be even better. After the renovation of most rooms in 2008, the remaining rooms in the property will be upgraded in summer 2014, as well as the lobby area and corridors. The new look will be even more modern and ‘mountain chic’ than before. With two of Vail’s best restaurants – the Cucina and Elway’s – located on the property, and an excellent spa, this is a superb choice for a luxury holiday in Vail.
