Lake Tahoe is the largest alpine lake in North America with fifteen distinct alpine ski areas around split into the north and south shores and divided across two states. The eastern third of the lake is in Nevada and comprises the suburban south shore with high rise casinos. The north shore in California is more understated comprising a compact towns amongst pine trees.
