Whistler Blackcomb has announced a huge $345 million plan to improve its whole offering.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Whistler Renaissance<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Known as the \u2018Whistler Renaissance\u2019 this will be the largest development in the history of the resort. Assuming that planning is approved, then the new plan will be introduced in three separate stages.<\/p>\n<p>Initially the resort will spend around $100 million building \u2018weather-proof\u2019 attractions that will be available all year round. Phase 2 will see around $105 million spent on a new day lodge and a new snow school facility on the Blackcomb sector of the mountain.<\/p>\n<p>Finally, the focus will move to the Blackcomb base area, where around $140 million will be spent on improving the facilities there.<\/p>\n<p><strong>New Aquacentre<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Among the new year round developments, visitors to Whistler can expect a new indoor aquacentre, bowling alley and \u2018surf centre\u2019 complex to be located at the upper base at Blackcomb.<\/p>\n<p>There will also be a new luge on rails, Go Ape-style ropes course and a brand new suspension bridge connecting the peaks of Whistler Mountain.<\/p>\n<p>There will also be a new \u2018action sports\u2019 centre, to be known as \u2018The Annex\u2019, plus various improvements to lifts, snowmaking and restaurants.<\/p>\n<p>Most lift improvements will be upgrades to new high-speed chairlifts, but there will be an additional gondola that will link Creekside to the top of Dave Murray Downhill.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Seven years until completion<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>It should take around seven years for the entire Renaissance to complete.
